Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is LFC connected to a denomination?

LFC is an independent church and is not affiliated to any other organisation.

2. How is LFC funded?

The church and everything connected with it is paid for out of the money given by members and friends. There is an offertory box on the table by the front door as well as bank paying-in slips for the use of anyone who wants to give to the Lord's work in Lausanne. The church will never make any kind of appeal for money.

3. Who can become a member of LFC, and what do members do?

Membership is open to professing Christians who have been baptised, either by immersion or by sprinkling. If you would like to become a member of LFC, speak to one of the elders and they will arrange for you to be interviewed. They will ask you for your testimony (how you became a Christian) and will talk about how members commit themselves to support the church, both practically and spiritually and agree to the church's constitution and statement of faith. All applications for membership have to be approved at a members' meeting, where a vote will be taken on the application. Members who are unable to attend the church services on a regular basis become non-voting members.

4. I would like to be baptised. Can I do that at LFC?

LFC pratices baptism by immersion. If you want to be baptised you need to speak to one of the elders and then have a meeting to talk about your request. There are no facilities at LFC, so baptisms usually take place in a pool in a member's garden. Anyone who is baptised at LFC automatically becomes a member of the church, so any application for baptism has to be agreed by the members.

5. Do you baptise babies and children?

LFC does not offer infant baptism because it practices believer's baptism following a profession of faith. However, in accordance with Luke 18:16, the church recognises that the Lord Jesus welcomed children and blessed them. Therefore the church is very happy to conduct a service of dedication for infants. This will take place during the morning service. Children will not be accepted for baptism until they are old enough to give a clear testimony of personal repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Children who have been baptised become non-voting members until they reach the age of 18.

6. Who can take communion?

Anyone who knows that their sins have been forgiven because of the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross on their behalf is welcome to share in the bread and the wine. We do not recommend that those who are unsure of their state before God take communion, although they are of course welcome to stay in the service. We do not offer communion to children until they have been baptised.

7. I need a place to stay while I am in Lausanne. Is there someone in the church I can stay with, or is it possible to sleep at the church?

Most people who come to the church live some distance away and do not have room to provide overnight accommodation.

There is an affordable guesthouse nearby called Lausanne Guesthouse. You can see details on their website:

http://lausanne-guesthouse.ch/home/home_en.php

8. I am coming to live/work in Lausanne but I can't find an apartment. Can you help me?

There is a housing shortage in the area and many people are struggling to find a place to live. Homegate is probably the easiest place to start looking, especially if you need details in English:

http://www.homegate.ch/en

9. I would like to go to a church like LFC while I am in Switzerland, but I live too far away. Is there another church nearer to where I live?

There are no other English-speaking churches in Switzerland that have the same doctrinal position as LFC. However, we do have the addresses of some other churches in various parts of Switzerland who are not connected with us but who do have services in English.

10. Can I hire the church premises for a concert/birthday party/lecture?

This is not possible.
